Controlling Mold Could Save Your Cash

If your home has high levels of moisture within the air, this can cause problems for you and your home. High humidity in your home can lead to an increase in molds which can potentially do harm to your health. A small appliances called a dehumidifier (or luftbefeuchter in Germany as I found out) can help to reduce the levels of moisture in the air.

However, if you are finding yourself always running a dehumidifier, you may want to get your home looked at for structural problems. Alternatively, if you are looking to buy a home, discovering any mold problems before you buy is extremely important.

When house hunting, you should consider any smells you find within the house. Particular smells inside the house are a good sign that there is a mold problem. Even if you can only smell bleach, this could be a sign that the owners are having to use the bleach and water combination to remove the mold.

Molds will often create a musty smells in the home, especially in bathrooms and basements, where humidity levels are generally high.

A university in America is currently researching into a system which would allow you to look up what the air quality is in that area. Even though this system would only work for outdoor air quality, it does give you an idea of what it’s like in the houses. More often than not, if the air quality is poor and full of moisture outside, this can then spread to the homes around the area.

Unfortunately, this system is still be tested and it would involve sensors being places in the local area. Alternatively, while you are house hunting, you could get a thermo-hygrometer to monitor the air quality.

If you already have a mold problem in your home, a dehumidifier is one way to control the problem. However, if you ignore the problem, it can spread around the home can potentially cause structural problems. Fixing structural issues caused by mold can be expensive work and if it’s not resolved, the mold can affect your health.

It’s odd though, as I was researching into this post, the foreign equivalent kept appearing. It’s strange hour the Mexican work for dehumidifiers, humidificadores, and the same word in French, humidificateurs, can be almost the same whereas the German, luftbefeuchter, is nothing like the others.
