Lack Of Heating Oil Means Many Schools Have To Close Their Doors
Hundreds of schools have been forced to remain closed after the Christmas holidays as the cold winter weather continues to sweep across many parts of Britain. The reason for this is the fact that they simply do not have enough heating oil or gas to keep the schools warm. What’s even more disturbing is the fact that one school could not open because thieves had stolen what supplies of heating oil they had.
A lot of schools had to continue to use their heating oil over the Christmas holidays to keep their systems going. Because this meant the oil supplies were eaten into over the holidays, a lot of schools did not have enough oil to come back to and are now awaiting emergeny deliveries of heating oil to get them back in business. Other reasons for the closure of some schools was the fact that the supply pipe for their oil had frozen over. The length of time that this period of cold weather has lasted has surprised many people and especially the severity of the snowfalls. The snow has been lying in a lot of parts of the country for nearly three weeks with no sign that things are to improve any time soon.
With a new trend for stealing heating oil, schools were a prime target being closed for the holidays. Police have stated that the school in question had about 1000 litres of its heating oil siphoned off while the school was closed. Some other schools returned to dwindling supplies of oil as the heating systems they use kick in when the temperature drops to a certain level. Because the temperature never reached above freezing over the Christmas holidays, most of these systems were constantly running and constantly eating into oil supplies.
The cold weather is crippling some parts of the country with many people unable to get to work. Adding to this problem is the fact that more parents now have no one to care for their children due to the hundreds of school closures.
Getting the home heated up during winter can be very expensive. Electricity and gas prices are very high and show no signs of coming down any time soon. Savvy people are changing over to oil as a home fuel though. And when this happens they have to ensure the tanks re always full of cheapest heating oil to make sure they don’t run dry in the cold weather.
