Contract beds and mattresses are vital in any commercial environment, and are designed to be much more durable and long lasting than standard consumer ones because of the extensive use they undergo.
Although they aren’t as aesthetically pleasing or have as many features as those designed for domestic use, contract beds and mattresses are ideal for their use. Found in all types of locations including student accommodation, holiday camps, prisons, hospitals, care and nursing homes, and hotels and guest houses, contract beds and mattresses are a large part of the UK market.
Contract beds and mattresses have to be fully compliant with strict UK and EU fire legislations and laws that greatly exceed those required in domestic situations. The usual UK and EU fire regulations for beds and mattresses in contract locations are of a Medium Standard.
All beds and mattresses used in the contract sector have to adhere to the minimum requirements of BS7177, which includes the following tests:
- BS EN597-1 (Cigarette)
- BS EN597-2 (Match)
- CRIB 5 BS6807
Failure to use contract beds and mattresses in commercial locations can lead to prosecution in the event of accidental fire damage. There are an increasing number of contract beds and contract mattresses available on the market in a variety of designs and colours, as fire legislations become stricter to protect and keep people safe.
